Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge has a spectacular
setting in a copse of giant acacia trees beside
a natural spring in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro.
The mountain, with its snow-capped peaks, 6,000
metres high, presides over a landscape containing
more big game than almost anywhere in Africa.
With its Maasai architecture, the lodge has
been designed to harmonize perfectly with the
environment. There are 96 beautifully appointed
guest rooms with authentic African murals. Guests
are invited to plant a tree to help reforest
the land that was becoming barren from herds
of elephants tearing up trees for food. Hundreds
of trees have been planted to date.
The lodge has its own swimming pool with water
from a mountain spring. Other activities include
game drives twice a day; sundowners on Observation
Hill; traditional feasts and tribal dancing
overlooking a waterhole where big game gather;
musical evenings; and visits to the traditional
manyattas of the Amboseli Maasai.
