Windsor House,
P.O. Box 45155, Nairobi .
Offering comfortable accommodation and located
about 2.5 km from the frontier town of Maralal
(the administrative headquarters of the Samburu
people) is the Maralal Safari Lodge, which overlooks
a waterhole where wild animals congregate around
the only permanent water in the sanctuary.
The lodge has 12 cottages with fire-places
and en-suite facilities. There’s also
a swimming pool. Guests can sit on the terrace
and watch the animals from the surrounding Maralal
National Sanctuary, where there are good opportunities
for visitors to watch leopards on bait from
the safety of a hide.
Also situated in Maralal is a tin-roofed bungalow,
now converted into a national monument, where
Mzee Jomo Kenyatta was detained in 1961 before
he was released to lead Kenya to independence
in 1963.
