Ol Tukai Lodge, opened in June 1996, lies hidden
in a forest of fever trees and palms at the
heart of the Amboseli National Park about 270
km south of Nairobi. Located at the foot of
snow-capped Mt. Kilimanjaro, Amboseli is one
of the best places in Africa for viewing elephants
as well as cheetah, gazelle, giraffe, leopard
and lion. Bird life is prolific, too.
The lodge has 80 luxury twin rooms in cottage
style, single-storey blocks made of wood, local
stone and slate. Each room has fine views of
either the wet-lands or Kilimanjaro. There are
two double rooms for disabled guests and wheel
chair ramps are provided. For ultimate luxury,
there is a three bed roomed house with verandas
and a spacious living room.
Activities include early morning and late afternoon
game drives; bird walks and rambles; and Maasai
entertainment every other evening. The lodge
has a dining room and two bars as well as conference
facilities and a splendid figure-of-eight outdoor
swimming pool.
