Day 1
Lunchtime arrival on Lamu where you will be
met and transferred to Kijani House.
Day 2-8
Accommodation for 7 nights on a dinner, bed
and breakfast basis. Your time on Lamu is your
own to be as active or relaxed as you wish.
The following is a list of optional excursions
which can be arranged on arrival at Kijani House:
visit to Lamu town, Swahili House and the old
stonetown • an afternoon dhow sail up
to the coral coves returning along Ras Kitau
for the sunset • an all day boat excursion
to Manda Toto, snorkelling and fishing at Gordon
Reef, ending with a fish barbeque on Mando Toto
Island • an all day boat excursion around
the island - Kimika Rocks, lunch at Kipungani
Village, and back through the mangrove channel
to Shella • a morning visit to Takwa Ruins
on Manda Island (the oldest stonetown on the
east coast of Africa, 9th century) • morning
birdwatching at Ras Kitau
Day 9
Midday transfer to Lamu airport for your Kenya
Airways flight to Nairobi.
Accommodation:
Kijani House, Kenya
Kijani House lies in the village of Shella,
on Lamu Island, in tropical gardens leading
directly to the sea. Six double rooms and four
triple rooms each have their own balcony or
verandah and are spread throughout the garden
into three small thatch roofed Swahili buildings
which were formerly private homes. The kitchen
specialises in seafood, Italian and African
dishes. There are two fresh water swimming pools.
Lamu town is 15 minutes away by boat or 3 kms
on foot.
